Coastlife church was established 1st July 1980 by Pastor Brian Houston as an outreach from Sydney Christian Life Centre. Shortly after, Pastor Kevin Brett was invited to lead the church until early 1997. In July 1997 Pastors Ian and Yvonne Zerna relocated from South Australia to accept the position of Senior Ministers of the church. A month before they permanently moved to the Coast, Ian and Yvonne were visiting the Coast and were driving down Terrigal Drive opposite the Erina Fair shopping centre. As they went through the roundabout near the McDonalds’ restaurant they saw 6.5 acres of vacant land on the left hand side of the road, and the Holy Spirit prompted Ian and said, ‘That’s the land’. The week Ian moved permanently to the Coast he discovered that the land was actually for sale, and met with the owner and made a commitment to purchase the land within 6 months. As the church had almost no money and minimal assets it was a step of faith in response to the word Ian had received. Three weeks later Ian shared the events with the congregation, and was amazed as an elder came to him weeping and told of how in 1981 the previous pastor and elders walked on the same land and felt God tell them to purchase the land, but backed off because they had no money. This was a miraculous sign to the congregation as God had kept that land for 16 years as no one was able to develop this prime real-estate.
It was truly miracle land. God moved on the congregation and in May of 1998, $1.8 million dollars in cash and commitments over a three year time to build capital stewardship campaign was raised. This was the beginning of a series of miracles that saw the opening of the first stage in July 2001. It was from this time we moved into our new church home where we have experienced incredible blessing and significant advancements in almost all areas of ministry. We anticipate that growth in all areas of the church will eclipse all that has gone before.
In October 2010 our incredible building was burnt to the ground, but through an amazing God we have been able to build bigger and better. God accelerated his purpose and plans for our church. Before the fire we had completed stage one of our building which included offices, a pre-school, Bible college, counselling rooms, chapel, resource centre and 2 large multipurpose auditoriums and we used the foyer as our temporary auditorium which seated 600 people.
Now we have our 1500 seat auditorium, incredible foyer, children’s play centre, gym, professional health care, dance school and so much more …....
This facility has been a result of the sacrificial and generous response of our Coastlife foundation who stand financially behind the vision with a yearly commitment to see the building complete. We are looking confidently to the future as we build a house for generations that will see thousands come to faith in Christ and make a positive contribution to our world.
